This policy explains what personal information we collect through thehomeselection.co.za, why we collect it, and what you can do about it. It is written to comply with the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA).
When you request an edition of The Home Selection, we ask you for:
Your full name
Your email address
Your mobile number
Your budget range
Your buying timeline
We also automatically collect limited technical information when you visit the site, including your IP address, browser type, device type, and how you arrived at the page. This comes from cookies and advertising pixels (see Cookies and tracking below).
We do not ask for, and do not want, your identity number, banking details, or financial records at this stage.
We use your information to:
Send you the edition you asked for, by email and by WhatsApp.
Understand what you're looking for, so that if you do get in touch, the conversation starts somewhere useful rather than at the beginning.
Contact you about properties that match what you told us, if and only if you ask us to.
Improve our advertising, by measuring which adverts lead to genuine interest.
We rely on your consent as the lawful basis for processing. You give that consent by ticking the box on the form. You can withdraw it at any time — see Your rights below.
We will not call you unprompted. The edition itself says: no follow-up unless you ask for one, and we mean it.
We will not sell, rent, or trade your information to anyone.
We will not add you to unrelated mailing lists.
We will not share your details with other estate agents unless you specifically ask us to connect you with a mandate-holding agency about a particular property.
Your information is stored and processed in our customer relationship management system, GoHighLevel (HighLevel Inc.), which we use to send email and WhatsApp messages and to keep a record of our conversations.
We also use:
Meta Platforms (WhatsApp Business and advertising) to deliver messages and measure advertising performance.
Mailgun to deliver email.
Cloudflare for domain and security services.
These providers process your information on our behalf and are contractually required to keep it secure. Some of them store data on servers outside South Africa, primarily in the United States. Where that happens, the transfer is permitted under section 72 of POPIA on the basis of your consent and the contractual protections in place with those providers.
If you would rather your information were not processed outside South Africa, please don't submit the form — email us instead and we'll send the edition manually.
This site uses cookies and advertising pixels, including the Meta Pixel, to understand how people find and use the page and to measure whether our advertising is working.
You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings. Doing so will not stop you from downloading an edition.
We keep your information for as long as it remains useful to the purpose you gave it for, and no longer than three years from your last interaction with us — unless you ask us to delete it sooner, or unless we are required by law to keep it longer (for example, records relating to a property transaction, which the Property Practitioners Act requires us to retain for five years).
Your information is held in password-protected systems with access limited to Lizna Nel. We use reputable service providers who maintain their own security measures. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information against loss, unauthorised access, and misuse.
If a security breach affects your personal information, we will notify you and the Information Regulator as required by POPIA.
Under POPIA you have the right to:
Ask what we hold about you, and get a copy of it
Correct or update anything that is wrong or out of date
Ask us to delete your information
Withdraw your consent to receiving communication from us
Object to our processing of your information
Complain to the Information Regulator if you believe we have handled your information unlawfully
To exercise any of these, email [email protected] or WhatsApp 079 394 3079. We will respond within 30 days. There is no cost, and asking will not affect how we treat you.
To unsubscribe from emails, click the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any email we send. To stop WhatsApp messages, reply STOP and we will remove you.
